Question of the day

Q: I am a student. I don't get any financial help from my elder brothers and sisters. My self-respect prevents me from asking them directly, but I am very upset with them because of this. What should I do?
A: You mentioned self-respect. If you had real self-respect you wouldn't get upset over your siblings not helping you. Instead you would be thinking about how you can help them. Genuine self-respect always leads people to think of how they can help others, not how they can get help from others. Also just because someone is a student it doesn't mean he has to be dependent on others. There are plenty of students who give private tuition or do some other kind of work, and not only support themselves but support their families as well. So being upset with your siblings is not justified.
